Summary: a person with many talents
I am a multipod, a talented and curious person with many passions. I’ve managed to take each unique and fabulous facet of me and roll it into Mattie-Moon.com. It’s my playground where I get to ponder, write, indulge my comic-persona Mattie Moon, and create artwork that celebrates amazing creative minds! When I was little, I dreamt of specializing in one thing, and I couldn’t wait when that “one thing” would be revealed to me. That big reveal never came. Instead I spent years frustrated at my seemingly endless interests… until I learned about Barbara Sher’s “Scanners” – Emilie Wapnick’s “Multipotentialites” – and the army of creatives claiming themselves to be “multi-passionate.”
Suddenly, everything made sense. I had given a good go of creating Mattie Moon Comics when I had started leafing through “Refuse To Choose” by Barbara Sher. I now understood that for me, it was OK to dabble among many things. It was even more exciting to learn there was nothing the matter with my brain. It was so exciting, in fact, that I created 100-Passions.com to celebrate amazing, creative minds.
Mattie Moon is my brand, my playground to ponder my unique brain and satisfy my need to create, no matter what form that creation takes. Here, randomness reigns and I couldn’t be happier!
Moonlighting
I had always held onto the idea of a creative pursuit. “Moon-lighting” attempts to get side projects off the ground failed. Unexpected events and raising a family competed with personal goals. Somewhere along the lines, I came up with the character of Mattie Moon, a female technology support person, a good fit to combat the stress of my full-time I.T. job. This side-tracked my easily distracted brain for awhile.
Even though I have had a lot of fun drawing Mattie, I struggled trying to organize myself and move projects forward. It seems I earned the title of “not a finisher” – not a label any of us would aspire to. After spending a lifetime trying to figure out my brain, I am now learning to work with it instead of against it. I hope you benefit from my revelations, because it is exhausting to go home on a daily basis, feeling defeated when in fact, you are blessed with amazing brain-power you don’t even know you have!
Cope as creatively as you can!
I still continue to draw. There is a zen/flow state that makes everything better. I continue to create resources and products inspired for minds that think a little differently. Knowing and connecting with others who share the same brain-struggle and quirky, creative mind is very comforting.
THANK YOU for supporting this website and the work I do. I truly feel that we are all in this together – I urge you to cope everyday with your world as creatively as you can!
– Renee Matt, creator of Mattie Moon, Mattie Moon Comics, and 100 Passions.
