The extended version: a person with many talents
Mattie Moon Comics started as a way for me to deal with job stress as an IT person. Drawing helped relieve some of the frustration I felt with work, people, and life.
I was never supposed to be a technology professional. I am a creative type, and always thought my job would have something to do with my artistic talents. My employment has ranged from a kitchen designer, to website freelancer and in the last decade, a tech support person (I guess there’s room for creativity in untangeling codes and cords!). One thing is for sure, I have skills.
Moonlighting my side hustle
Despite all of this, I still held onto the idea of a creative pursuit. “Moon-lighting” attempts to get side projects off the ground failed. Unexpected events and raising a family competed with personal goals. Somewhere along the lines, I came up with the character of Mattie Moon, a female technology support person. This side-tracked my easily distracted brain for awhile.
Even though I have had a lot of fun drawing Mattie, there is this constant nagging that plagues me. I have always tried to work with my brain instead of against it. It seems I have lived a life-time of procrastination, only recently realizing that I am using time-management methods that never had a chance against my ADD/ADHD-wired brain. When I started experimenting with different approaches, I finally started seeing progress! I hope you will to, because it is exhausting to go home on a daily basis, feeling defeated.
Cope as creatively as you can!
I still continue to draw. There is a zen/flow state that makes everything better. I continue to create resources and products inspired for minds with attention-deficit tendancies. Making progress is an exhilarating drug. Knowing and connecting with others who share the same brain-struggle and the fun of a quirky, creative mind is very comforting. Helping YOU is like Christmas everyday.
THANK YOU for supporting this website and the work I do. I truly feel that we are all in this together – I urge you to everyday cope with your world as creatively as you can!
